Set in the mid‑1940s on a farm along the Ätran River in Falkenberg, farmer Nils Erik Kristersson (Stefan Gerhardsson) lives with his sharp‑tongued wife Mathilda (Siw Carlsson) and their daughter Greta. Also residing there are the quirky shoemaker Ola Larsson (Krister Claesson) and the talkative maid Emma (Tina Leijonberg). Their routine is interrupted when Second Lieutenant Löwendahl (Tommy Juth) and Sergeant Malmberg (Gösta Janson) arrive to requisition the property for the Home Guard, sparking a comic farce.
