Following World War I, two German prisoners of war escape a Siberian lead mine where they have been held for years. Karl reaches Germany before his companion Richard and finds refuge with Anna, Richard’s wife. As Richard journeys home, Karl and Anna fall in love, leading to a fraught reunion when Richard finally returns.
