Widowed Elinor Randall and her daughter Jerrine arrive in a barren Wyoming stretch in 1910 after Elinor secures a house‑keeping job with rancher Clyde Stewart. The labor and winter isolation push her to consider homesteading nearby, though Stewart warns of the harsh climate and limited rewards for a woman alone. Despite clashing temperaments and little affection, they marry, merge their lands, and face a test of love and survival.
