Three friends graduating from a Communist school in World II face the promise of summer—swimming in the Black Sea and courting the same girl. Their plans unravel when they are conscripted as officers, their families object, and they fear being torn apart. The military manipulates them into joining the army rather than the navy, forcing them to confront loss and shifting loyalties.
