Golden‑antlered deer guards the forest’s weak. Nearby, widow Yevdokya lives with twin daughters, a son and grandfather. The girls see robbers hunting the deer, are drawn into the woods by spirits, and Baba Yaga turns them into fawns. Yevdokya receives a magical ring and the deer’s advice to follow the red sun or clear moon, yet neither light reaches the woods. Her son and cat set out to rescue the sisters and mother.
