God Disposes

A privileged young man abandons his family for a stage actress, only to be disowned and discover he cannot support himself. His wife falls ill, a child is born, and years later he faces desperate poverty, planning a burglary. He leaves his revolver out; his naive child toys with it, removes the bullets, and later, unaware, points it at his father during a nighttime break‑in. Divine intervention spares the son from patricide.
