During the 1988 Iran–Iraq war, Gilane takes her pregnant daughter Maygol to Tehran to search for Maygol’s husband Rahman, facing a frightening reality. Fifteen years later, amid conflict, she tends her epileptic son Ismael at home, awaiting a doctor’s visit and hoping to reunite with her other daughter Atefah. She says “better be dog than mother.”
