In a decaying village, a farmer (Naseeruddin Shah), a weaver (Om Puri), a trader (M.K. Raina) and a woman (Shabana Azmi) reject the lords’ offer of food and water for labor. The farmer grows crops, the weaver makes textiles to trade with the merchant. A frightened woman arrives, is taken in, and soon fuels tension as the trader watches the struggle for survival.
