In the chilly Russian village of Popoffski, a young woman (Katherine Grant) catches the eye of a modest pool‑shark’s son (Stan), who courts her under her father's watchful nose. When he proposes, the father readily consents, noting his nine other children. Their celebration is interrupted by a military officer who orders the woman to become a court dancer.
