What Happens at the End of Fall Guy?
How Fall Guy (2023) ends, what the final scene means, which earlier moments set it up and how to read the ending if the film leaves it open. The full ending explained, with every spoiler.
The conclusion of The Fall Guy sees Colt Seavers and director Jody Moreno turning the tables on the film's antagonists, exposing the sinister plot hatched by actor Tom Ryder and producer Gail. By exploiting Tom's desperate need to be seen as a legitimate action star, Colt lures him into a trap that secures a recorded confession for the murder Colt was framed for. In a moment of poetic justice, Tom meets his demise through his own arrogance; ignoring clear safety warnings about cell phones in explosive zones, he answers a call and inadvertently triggers the explosion that kills him. This sequence not only clears Colt’s name but serves as a thematic rebuke of Tom’s ego, contrasting the actor's superficial vanity with the genuine skill and professionalism of the stunt crew.
With the villains defeated, the production of Metalstorm is able to wrap, albeit with a new lead actor replacing Tom, allowing Jody to finally realize her dream of directing a major blockbuster. For Colt, the ending resolves his internal crisis regarding his career-ending injury. He realizes that his fear of inadequacy led him to push Jody away, but by trusting her and his team, he rediscovered his self-worth beyond just his physical capabilities. Their rekindled romance serves as the emotional anchor of the finale, emphasizing that partnership and trust are far more valuable than solitary pride.
Beyond the narrative resolution, the film’s ending functions as a love letter to the stunt community. It explicitly critiques the industry tendency to overlook stunt performers while praising actors who claim to do their own stunts. The credits reinforce this message by showcasing behind-the-scenes footage of the real stunt doubles who performed the film's dangerous feats, giving them the spotlight they deserve. To cap off the homage to the franchise's roots, the film features a mid-credits cameo from Lee Majors and Heather Thomas, the stars of the original The Fall Guy television series, appearing as police officers to close out the adventure with a nostalgic nod to the past.
