After her mother leaves her father, who is suffering from dementia, Alex returns home to care for him. Living back in her childhood house, she begins to re-evaluate her own life choices. She questions her marriage to an adulterous husband, having long tolerated his infidelities, and wonders if she should abandon her own pretense, just as her parents have.
