In a New England boarding school, a student falls for his teacher’s wife, who has multiple sclerosis. She attempts to show her strict husband that love, not control, helps the boy grow, but she later falls into a coma. Even in her limited awareness, the coma forces her husband to confront his own flaws and understand the need to care for others.
