In an Old West valley, a band of copper miners—former Southern soldiers—are terrorized by rebels led by Deputy Lane Travis. They hire stage sharpshooter Johnny Carter, mistakenly believing he is the famed Colonel Desmond. Johnny rides into Coppertown, falls for gambler Lisa Roselle, whom the miners think fuels their troubles, and becomes embroiled in the violence.
