It follows a middle‑aged literature professor who becomes deeply enamored with a young student boarding in his home. Though married, his wife—aware of his attraction to younger men—continues to love him. The narrative centers on a manuscript the professor dictates to the pupil, only declaring his love in its final pages, by which time it is tragically too late.
