Children of the Corn: Genesis

Tim and Allie find themselves stranded after their car breaks down in the heat of a desolate desert. With no nearby help in sight, they stumble upon a remote farmhouse and, hoping to use a phone, knock on the door. The entrance is guarded by a Charles Manson–like figure who calls himself the Preacher, a man whose presence instantly unsettles them. He and his Ukrainian wife, Oksana (also known as Helen), invite them inside and offer a night’s shelter, but the couple make it clear they expect them to be gone by morning and to stay away from spaces that aren’t explicitly open to them. The atmosphere is tense and a little eerie, but Tim and Allie try to rationalize the oddities as just local quirks and decide to stay.

Over dinner, the house feels increasingly strange: the hosts’ quiet control, the way rooms seem to shift with the night, and the feel of being watched. After they retire, Allie slips away to the outhouse and stumbles into a revelation she hadn’t anticipated. The garage behind the farmhouse has been converted into a cult-worshipping space, and in a crumbling outbuilding, she hears faint cries coming from a child The Child. Her discovery shocks her, and she rushes back to Tim with her suspicions. At first, Tim brushes off her fears, doubting her account and thinking she may be imagining things under the stress of their situation.

When Tim finally confronts the Preacher about the voices, the moment twists into something more sinister. Tim becomes entranced, slipping into a hypnotic trance while staring at digital photos on the Preacher’s camera. Before they can escape the mounting dread, the child finds their way into the house and plants a seed of dread inside Allie, then vanishes as if never there. A cold, creeping fear settles over the house as a supernatural force begins to tighten its grip, and the couple realize they are not just guests but captives.

Desperation mounts as they try to leave. The front door locks on its own, trapping them inside as the supernatural presence intensifies. Allie desperately tries to call the police, but the line is inexplicably cut halfway through the call. That night, Allie’s dreams are vivid and terrifying: she imagines being hunted and murdered by children in a moonlit cornfield, a nightmare that feels almost real. The next day brings a new nightmare into daylight— a police officer arrives to check on the disturbance, only to be lifted and hurled by an unseen force, his body torn from the world in an instant. This moment confirms the true danger they’re facing and pushes Tim to demand answers from the Preacher.

What he learns is chilling: the supernatural force needs children to survive, and it has already planted a seed inside Allie, binding her fate to the haunting presence of the house. With this grim knowledge, they brace for what comes next, knowing that any attempt to escape could unleash consequences beyond their control.

Come morning, a parcel delivery driver arrives with supplies and offers Tim and Allie a ride into town. Tim’s instincts scream danger, and he seizes a risky chance to flee with Allie in the abandoned police vehicle instead. They make it to the main road, a fragile moment of hope that is crushed when the child from the outbuilding strikes again, killing Helen and unleashing a powerful psychokinetic force that sends Tim’s car careening into catastrophe. Tim is killed in the crash, leaving Allie to face the aftermath.

The parcel driver returns with Allie to the farmhouse, where a chilling scene unfolds: a group of mothers and their children wait in the shadows. In a trance, Allie sits beside the little The Child in the outbuilding and begins to sing, a moment that feels both terrifying and hypnotically calm. The child toys with a doll, and a final, grotesque image lingers as the corpse of the cop drops from the sky to the ground, sealing the grim fate that has taken over the house. The story closes on a note of unsettling ritual and surrender, where the line between protection and possession is blurred, and the violence of the supernatural world asserts itself with a quiet, inexorable force.
