An aspiring artist, scarred by a past that strained her bond with her father, flees men and finds refuge in a convent offering cheap lodging to troubled women for work. In the basement she paints a mural; some call it gaudy, but the Mother Superior sees it could save the threatened convent. She romances the art‑supply shop owner and steals supplies.
