Plot Summary
In the 1950s, Dr. Evelyn Hooker proved homosexuals were not mentally ill with pioneering research. Her work and gay activism helped the American Psychiatric Association in 1974 drop homosexuality from its manual. The film blends footage of conversion treatments, gay life in the McCarthy era, and home movies of Christopher Isherwood, illuminating it.
