Lord Peter Wimsey weds crime novelist Harriet Vane. Both vow to abandon crime, and Peter gives Harriet the old house of her childhood. As they attempt to move in, the previous owner is inexplicably missing. While cleaning the cellar they uncover his corpse, forcing the newlyweds to face a fresh murder and the darkness they hoped to leave behind.
