In Poland, Jedrzej uncovers a devastating secret: his father Edwin was not an Olympic loser but a victim of a conspiracy orchestrated by the government to cover up their corruption and obedience to Soviet interests. The revelation is delivered through an audio recording traced back to the 1971 Olympics, exposing that Edwin was ordered to lose his fight intentionally to please the Soviet Union. This knowledge puts Jedrzej in a complex position—he cannot directly seek justice, as the political landscape has shifted and the regime has fallen, but it deeply affects his understanding of his family’s history. Nevertheless, he uses this information to blackmail a corrupt politician, Konstanty Zalewski, into allowing him to take over his father’s old gymnasium.

Though reconciliation with Kasia remains out of reach, the story ends on a quietly hopeful note. Kasia occasionally brings Tadeusz, Jedrzej’s son, to visit him at the gymnasium, symbolizing a fragile yet ongoing connection between them. After a tumultuous journey through poverty, betrayal, and disillusionment, Jedrzej finds some peace by establishing a future where he can nurture his love for boxing and maintain a bond with his son, emphasizing that sometimes, despite all struggles, one can find a way back to what truly matters in life.
