A young man seeks to marry a poor girl, but her jealous cousin spreads rumors that he loves her instead. Determined, he battles numerous obstacles to rescue his beloved, who is held captive in an opulent villa inhabited by strange relatives—vampires known as upyri in old‑Russia. These creatures drain the blood of anyone who visits, and driven by love, the hero recklessly confronts the vampire nest.
