After honest youth Tolly is unexpectedly thrust onto the run with the dangerous ruffian Black Jack, they are plunged into a chaotic series of escapades. The pair wander through a bizarre landscape of body‑snatchers, a privately run lunatic asylum and a roving fair, discovering that even the most unlikely companions can forge a loyal friendship amid constant danger and mishap.
