Hovering between poetry and history, the stunningly photographed elegiac film is shot largely in long takes. It blends cryptic metaphor and symbolism to follow Avetik, an Armenian filmmaker exiled in Berlin, while Askarian employs lyrical, dreamlike imagery that recalls his homeland’s past, childhood memories, medieval erotic poetry, and his exile.
