Set in São Paulo, professor Alberto tells his friend and student Polidoro he won a scholarship in Paris. While Polidoro is abroad he learns Alberto has married Helena. He returns to Brazil in 1945 amid political unrest and stays at Alberto’s house in Campos do Jordão, where Helena seduces him. After a brief, intense affair she tells him to leave and never return.
