Based on Hideko Hirai’s 1929 hit song, this short film is a rare historical curiosity that opens a window onto 1930s Japanese popular culture by following the everyday world of a bright, energetic young girl. It features an early product placement for Lion Toothpaste, includes educational segments, and incorporates newsreel footage of Kinue Hitomi, Japan’s first female Olympic medalist.
