Uwe Friessner’s debut feature follows West Berlin teen Jimmi, who survives by petty theft, hustling and spending time in punk clubs, yet remains unemployable for reasons the film subtly reveals. Inspired by Friessner’s attempt to help a suicidal runaway, the story introduces older students who try to find work for Jimmi and briefly shelter him in their commune.
