In the 1600s, before photography existed, a scientist named Fumagalli became obsessed with capturing images. He discovered that by killing a victim, removing the eyes and exposing the retina, he could imprint the last visual memory onto paper—a method he called “Thanatography.” The film shows that centuries later the same gruesome ritual and abominable crimes resurface, echoing his macabre technique.
