Alberto Menichetti shares a modest home with his aunt and the elderly housekeeper Clotilde. He works for a firm whose widowed manager, Mrs. De Ritis—her husband having died in a wild‑boar hunt—takes a fancy to him. Alberto, however, is infatuated with the teenage Marcella and plans to confess his feelings on her birthday. His chronic timidity and selfishness lead him into a series of mishaps.
