The climax of “97 Minutes” reveals a complex web of deception and sacrifice. The true traitor, Enid Slouris, had infiltrated the hijackers, and the man believed to be saving everyone was actually working toward destroying the plane and unleashing a nuclear catastrophe. In the end, Hawkins, the NSA director, resigns, relieved that the destruction has been avoided, while Toyin is finally able to take a leading role, although her career setbacks remain. The ending emphasizes themes of redemption, sacrifice, and the fragile line between innocence and guilt, leaving viewers with a powerful message that even in the darkest moments, acts of courage can change the course of history.
